The tracks

From the mortal manifesto of the title track to the eternal yearning of One Of Life’s Little Mysteries, DEAD MAN’S SHOES is an album of heart-worn sentiments, sculpted with the skill of a lifelong craftsman, and sung in the voice of a cherished old friend.

These are songs of everyday tragedy and resilience, steeped in the country tradition, where the ache of The Great Divide is the inevitable flipside to the redemption of Only Love Knows The Way.

From the tender emotion of Crossing Over and Billy (once covered by Keith Urban), to the playfully philosophy of Hard Luck Story and Big Boy Now, each is a classic story ringing with beguiling melody, expertly handled acoustic instruments and a life examined with wisdom and humour.

“Some of these songs have been with me for a long time”, says Kim, “So the words mean a lot to me, whether they were written by myself and co-writer Kevin Bennett (from The Flood), Memphis Slim (Mother Earth) or Johnny Cash and Randy Scruggs (Passing Through).

Dead Man's Shoes is out September 2010
